KUKA Robotics Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of industrial robots, today announced it has been selected by Lawrence Technological University of Southfield, Michigan, to provide robots for its master of science in Mechatronic Systems Engineering (MSMSE) degree program, the first of its kind in the United States. KUKA KR3 robots and KUKA Sim Pro simulation software will be the centerpiece of the university's new laboratory created for the program where students will be learning robotics programming and application simulation. The university plans a campus open house April 28th from 11am to 4pm at which attendees can tour the new lab and learn about the new program. "The mechatronics degree is very popular in Europe and Asia, and Lawrence Tech saw the need for a similar offering here in the U.S.
High-tech robot could revolutionize brain surgery
CALGARY — Brain surgery and rocket science collided at University of Calgary Tuesday as researchers unveiled a medical robot designed to revolutionize how doctors perform risky neurological procedures. The $27-million neuroArm — more than six years in research and development — is the world's first magnetic resonance imaging-compatible surgical robot, according to the Canadian scientists and engineers behind the innovation. The surgical arm is fashioned after the two Canadarms, built in Canada for use on NASA space shuttles. .
Worlds Smallest Autonomous Robot?
Zac Wheeler posted to the DPRG mailing list, "I've finished (sort of) building my first sumo bot, which I believe is also the first pico sumo robot, as well as the current smallest robot in the world. I'm defining robot here as self-powered, autonomous, with active sensing of its environment and the ability to control its movement. It has a battery, intelligent control, infrared sensors, and two motors." This brought to mind the very first story we posted here at robots.net back in 2001, about Sandia's tiny robot. I mentioned this to Zak and he said, "The Sandia bot is the one that inspired me to take this on ... their bot is a quarter of a cubic inch - about twice the volume of mine. Check it out on the nickel vs. mine on the dime." .
Waiakea students in robotics contest
The Waiakea High School First Robotics Team will compete in the 2007 First Robotics Championships, which get under way today in Atlanta. NASA TV will broadcast the competition, which wraps up on Saturday, live on its Web site, www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html. SCHOOL, COLLEGE PLAN 'OHANA FEST Saint Louis School and Chaminade University of Honolulu will this month hold "Celebrate 'Ohana" festival a fundraising event for campus and classroom improvements. Among the highlights are a classic car exhibit, game booths, food booths, white elephant sale and craft shows. Festival hours are set for 1 to 7 p.m. April 27 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 on the Saint Louis School and Chaminade University Campus, 3142 Wai'alae Ave. Festivities also include a 5K fun run through Palolo Valley, 8 a.m.
